As you have onboarded a new talent holding Employment Pass (EP) and you get all excited about getting EP for her/him, you realised that you may not be sure about the following:

  • Can a new EP be applied before the previous EP is cancelled?

  • Or, the previous EP will have to be cancelled before applying for a new one?

Based on what MOM has shared through an official email reply,

"A new employer may submit the Employment Pass (EP) application for the candidate whilst he/she is still holding on to the existing pass.

However, a foreigner can only hold one pass at any point in time.

Hence, if the new EP application is approved, the existing EP will need to be cancelled first, before the new pass can be issued to the candidate.

For more information on EP application procedures, please refer to the following link: https://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits/employment-pass/apply-for-a-pass"
